What are the negatives of this...
Well polar bears, indigenous Inuit cultural practices damaged, mineral exploitation increase and ensuing arguments over whose land it is...

Positives-
Decreased shipping times from Far east to Europe, cheaper transport costs, cheaper goods for us over here, more shipping= more goods transported,
